Enjoy Living.
And History.
Hope Valley is considered Durham’s most well-loved, and well-lived, neighborhood. It’s not something that happened by accident.
The golf course, country club, landscaping and roadways were conceived of as a piece, creating a remarkably cohesive and picturesque setting that has more than stood the test of time (just about a century in fact). In recognition, the area was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.
Even more important are the human connections that have been made over time – the traditions that have been passed down, the generations that have grown up, the people who call Hope Valley home.
What was once Durham’s premier neighborhood is still exactly that today.
Hope Valley Country Club serves as the crossroads of the community – landmark, meeting place, sports center and dining hub.
Stately Colonials, sturdy Tudors and historic homes in styles both classic and modern can be found around every bend.
You’ll fit right in.
Oldfourth connects you directly to a renowned, impressively landscaped course, set in an equally notable neighborhood of tree-lined streets and beautiful homes.
And of course, the course.
The central and most notable feature of Hope Valley is the “total gem” of a golf course designed by Donald Ross in the mid 1920s. He was intimately involved in its creation, mapping out his vision for the fairways and bunkers as well as the surrounding streets and landscaping.
Over the years, enhancements have been made to the course by noted designers such as Perry Maxwell and Brian Silva. But the challenging holes and scenic views first laid out by Ross are still here for you to take on, and take in, today.
Walk in the footsteps of Byron Nelson, who won one of his record-setting 11 tour victories in a row here.
While it’s now the 13th hole, in the original design of the course the fairway that runs alongside the property belonged to hole #4. Hence the name.
